Customer Reviews for: Eclipse (The Twilight Saga, Book 3)

Rating 5 out of 5 - Eclipse
Thought it was an excellant ending to the series. Couldn't put it down til I was finished.

Rating 5 out of 5 - WOW!
It is such a great story. I fell in love from the first book. I can't wait until Breaking Dawn!!!

Rating 5 out of 5 - The standout of the Saga..
I had already read the first two books in about a 2 days time so I knew I had to order Eclipse, the third in the saga. This one is full of more action than the preceding books and I personally found it more enjoyable. I won't go in to detail because I don't want to spoil the story, but if you have read the first two, then you HAVE to keep going! And if you haven't yet read the first two books, order them as well and get started!!

While the series is more or less geared for YA, many ages can find something to relate to within all the books of the saga.

Rating 3 out of 5 - What is it that makes these so captivating?
Ok, the plot in a nutshell: Bella is working her way through graduation, which is to lead up the shedding of her humanity to become a vampire and live happily with her vampire boyfriend Edward. During the course of this story, she becomes the target of a group of newborn vampires. Her werewolf friends and her vampire 'family' join as reluctant allies to aid her. More a story of Bella's feeling for Edward and her best friend, the werewolf Jacob than an action/suspense story, this story at times is almost too much to take. Bella's whiny, self-pitying reaches a new low here. There is nothing redeemable about this character. Zilch, zip, nadda. She is selfish, but she tortures herself because she is so, but she still doesn't change. Edward is a bit more substantial and can be a fun, well drawn character except when he is professing his love to Bella, or talking about how he can't live without her, and would give up anything to make her happy. Unfortunately this happens at least once, every other page. I kid you not. Jacob is a much better character, he is unflinchingly an unperfect character (although beautiful, because apparently Mrs.Meyer doesn't allow unbeautiful type people in her created world) but he is tremendously likeable as well. The writing is tired and poorly done in a technical sense. The amazing thing is that I can't help but enjoy these books. There isn't a logical reason I should. The two main characters are whiny, self absorbed, and just cheesy as all get out. There isn't much of a plot to speak of, and the writing is eye roll inducing. But the story moves quickly across the page, and it never stops being absorbing. I can never call myself a Twilight fan, but I still would say these books are enjoyable.

Rating 4 out of 5 - Eclipse
Of the four books I think this one is probably on the lower end of my favorites. After New Moon, I love that Edward is back. It was so lonely without him. I'm frustrated with Bella though, and her inability to stay away from Jacob. I dislike the constant back and forth. She is hopelessly unaware of anyone else's feelings but her own. Don't get me wrong, I still love her dearly but at some point I just really wanted to shake her and say "Look at what you already have! You have Edward! Your true love! Lets not get greedy, there needs to be some sacrifice and suffering!" The compromise scene in Edward's bedroom was one of my favorites (probably because this is the point he finally gets her to accept his proposal) and then when he throws it back in Jacob's face the next day in tent.

I like what Stephenie Meyers has said about Bella realizing she was in love with Jacob in the 11th Hour. Though she sees the future she could have with Jacob, how easy it would be and how she could eventually be happy she still chooses Edward. I don't think this makes her weak character. I think as a person she knows her limitations, she knows that though a small part of her loves Jacob the love she has for Edward is greater and, well eclipses anything else. I don't see the downside to this at all. It's a hard choice but it's the right choice for her.
