Customer Reviews for: Acoustic Authority A-3780RB Black 2.1 180 Watt Pro Series Subwoofer Satellite System

Rating 1 out of 5 - HORRIBLE sound reproduction
You may be tempted to buy these speakers based on their low price and their high reviews, but let me just say something. Do NOT buy these speakers. The bass is very muddy, so that any music with bass drums or bass quitar comes out distorted at any volume. Also, the mids are TOTALLY LACKING! As if that's not enough, there are annoying "crackling" sounds coming from the satellites. If you're looking for a PC speaker system that has any sort of quality, AVOID Cyber Acoustics. These speakers are a piece of junk made in China. Anyone who rated these highly is either crazy or deaf.

Rating 4 out of 5 - Worth The Money
First off, I wasn't looking for anything that'll give me the best sound possible or the loudest sound. I was looking for a decently priced system for my laptop(where I spend a majority of my time) that delivers a good amount of bass(for hip-hop/rap) but would also give me good quality sound for other genres of music. This system delivers it all at a good price. Definitely don't regret the buy and would buy more from this company when the day comes I need to replace this set.

Rating 4 out of 5 - The remote switch and the cabling are its best features
This is not a high-end audiophile set-up, and it is best suited to applications that don't require quality sound, such as gaming.
I was looking for a cheap replacement for my 10 year-old Speakerlab junk.
I was originally considering the Acoustic Authority A-3640, but decided that the extra power of the 3780 would be worthwhile. Extra power should mean the electronics are not working as hard at normal listening levels.
Ideally, this might mean you get sound at lower distortion levels, but as these Cyber Acoustics systems are all rated at 10% THD, there's plenty of ugly to go into your ears at any volume. This seems to come principally from the mid-range, but listening to music for more than a few songs starts to make me feel ill.
I find all subwoofers to be muddy, so I have that setting turned all the way down (It's still very, um, "exciting").
If you can get music playback software that offers the opportunity to cut the bass further via equalization, then you might be happiest.
The speakers are OK, and they would offer reasonable value if not for the mid-range distortion. Imaging is well above average for this type of product, offering good value.
What makes this unit stand out is the remote switch - you can vary the volume on Subwoof and on master volume, plug in headphones (no more cable swapping, which was a pain), or - best of all - turn the unit off for when you are not using it. This is a super convenience feature.
The master volume knob is of reasonable quality, and in using it to adjust volume settings, the sound crackles and surges under adjustment in the very low end of the volume-engagement range.
The cabling is great - wires are all long enough for about any desk I can imagine, and they thoughtfully include an adapter if you want to feed in the input via RCA connectors. Set-up is fairly idiot-proof as long as you understand what "source" means.
If you want a lot of bang for the buck and don't have ears made of gold then this might be your ticket.
I wouldn't buy it again - I'd go for something more expensive. And although I suppose in a pinch you could port this this to a party to play an iPod through, I would not consider this to use to listen to my CD collection - I'd end up with a headache.

Rating 4 out of 5 - Great price, three hitches.
The price is great for what you get. The range of frequency and loudness are there.
Three hitches. One, a little lacking in the mid-range. This is most likely due to the physical limitation of such a deep bass driver and such a small mid driver in the satellites. The satellites are nice, but the mids could be punchier for a more complete, rich sound.
Two, a lot of noise from the tweeters when not in use. It is a white noise more commonly associated with horn drivers. The noise is not very noticeable when you are actually using the speakers, but when there is no sound coming out, turn down the speaker volume to avoid the noise.
Three, the one that worries me. I did not notice when I was researching the product. THESE SPEAKERS ARE NOT MAGNETICALLY SHIELDED!!! Please be careful placing these speakers, especially the subwoofer. It has a large magnet that can erase magnetic media and damage magnetically sensitive equipment. I noticed instantly that it was messing with the transmission of my wireless mouse. I was shocked they were not shielded, but that is probably one of the bigger factors in why the price is as low as it is.
Overall, a great buy, but be careful. You do get a lot for the buck here.
