Customer Reviews for: Sony Bravia XBR-Series KDL-37XBR6 37-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

Rating 1 out of 5 - Never recieved shipping compan a joke
I will never buy anything from Amazon again. The so called white glove shipping is a 3rd party shipper who gets it close to your door the a another 3rd party shipper delivers. But before they will ship they send an email that looks like spam and ends up in your trash. They promise day after day but if their 3rd party shipper does not want to do it our stuck waiting another week for the item. I cancelled the order and will buy the item locally. To bad Amazon I used to think you were a good company.

Rating 1 out of 5 - Great TV, misleading power specification
I'd agree with the five star ratings of most others if it weren't for one thing. This TV is supposed to be Energy Star compliant (low standby power consumption) and Sony says the TV draws less than 0.1 watts in sleep mode. I have a power meter and test all new appliances and guess what? This TV draws an average of 15-20 watts when plugged in and supposedly off. (My meter isn't that accurate at these low readings, but I'm confident it's in that range.) Sometimes the meter goes to 0 watts, but that's only for a short period of time after which it consumes about 20 watts. I suspect the problem is with the TV guide the unit gets from PBS stations, which would seem to require the tuner to be on, and 20 watts for that might be reasonable.

At roughly 25c/kWh that I pay for my last tier of power, that's about $40 a year of wasted power and corresponding CO2. I tried calling Sony about this to find out if I had a defective TV, or as is more likely, the unit rarely goes to sleep due to the guide search or similar. Initially, they were helpful and said they'd look into it, but I've heard nothing in a month in spite of two emails (plus one just now). I also just wasted half an hour on the phone, mostly on hold. I give up on Sony helping with this, but wanted others to know of this situation.

On the positive side, I found buying through Amazon really enjoyable. I called the specialist number they list on the TV's page to find out if there was a coax cable input, and they knew there was one even though the spec doesn't mention it. The TV came within a few days of my placing the order.

Rating 5 out of 5 - shipping
TV is great. Came in 3 days to cape cod from Amazon in PA. Box was in bad condition. There was a hole in it and the styrofoam blocks were crushed. Fortunately the TV is ok.

Rating 5 out of 5 - great picture, but TV Guide is not good
The picture works great in a glarry room, the remote the whole family can use, etc. everything about this TV is great, except the TV Guide thingy. I have another digital receiver that displays generic non branded guide information. This branded 'TV guide' doesn't work in my neigborhood. This is via antenna, not cable. It is sad to pay this much for a TV and the guide not work as well as our cheap digital converter box does. As my wife said, the information must be available, the Sony machine just doesn't utilize it.

Sony, for those of us who live w/o cable or dish, could we just have a simple unbranded version of the guide? Its only software, how about an update?
