It lived as long as it did because we were diligent about turning it off when we weren't using it. It does get very, very hot. Maybe he was subconsciously angling for an upgrade? In any event, it's inexpensive and we had no significant problems- though it is currently obsolete. Rating - The Worst! I will never buy another product from XACT ever again. I purchased then receiver, boombox and portable kit and the receiver went bad so i lost out on everything. What a waste of money! Rating - Xact XTR1 Unit failed after six hours of use and was returned for refund. Will not buy another. Rating - AVOID I have replaced this unit 3 times in 2 years. I have replaced the car kit 3 times in 2 years. I have replaced the home kit twice in 2 years. I would AVOID purchasing this company's products.
