They are beefy and will pick up a full rack of ribs with ease, which is why I bought them. However, the spring failed after about a dozen uses. It broke in the very center of the U-bend of the spring. The tongs themselves are sturdy, but the spring mechanism is cheap. I have since purchased a pair of Oxo 16" tongs. After reading the reviews I called the company instead of returning for a refund. They were very nice and sent out another one. This one just broke - exactly like the other one - after about a month of use. The overall design of the tongs is great like other Raichlen products but the construction is severely lacking.
