A rubber gasket behind the flip down front panel and integrated water drainage channels work to keep water out. When it comes to marine source units, stainless steel is your friend
Clarion uses a stainless steel chassis in the CMD5 and the M475. Should any water get behind the radio, this design, along with an integrated drip shield over the main harness connector, ensures that water stays on the outside. - Exactly as advertised...just what I wanted
They knew what they were doing when they built this stereo. Simple and easy to use all of the functions...not overly complicated like most of the models I've tried. Incredibly crystal clear sound with plenty of power. The remotes are a great addition.

The Clarion CMD5 Marine Receiver was an installed upgrade to my new pontoon boat (read expensive). It is advertised as satellite radio/IPOD/MP3 etc. ready. It is NOT. In order to connect my IPOD I had to purchase an expensive ($90 from Clarion, cheaper on Amazon) cable interface in order to use. It's similar if you're wanting to use the other "ready" functions (save AM/FM and CD player), you'll need to buy an interface cable. I've had $50 stereos ... Read More
